Data Privacy

1. What types of data do we collect?

The Research Team collects data from Data Partners that includes: 

  • Customer data exports

  • Order data exports

  • Email campaign exports

  • Other data collected in e-commerce or email marketing platforms

The Research Team does not collect credit card or other financial information from the Participating Winery(ies) or Participating Winery(ies)’ customers.

2. How do we use the data?

The Research Team shall use Participant Winery(ies) data solely for the Study and related research. It is agreed by the Research Team that the disclosure of data does not grant any right or license, except as set forth herein to the data. The data will be used to study how allocated offerings for wine work, including benchmarking industry performance, differences in allocated offering structures, and potential methodologies that improve offering performance. More detail on the scope of the Research is provided in the Research section of the Study’s website. 

Except as expressly contemplated hereby, neither Research Team nor Data Partners may make any press or media announcements using Participant Winery(ies) name, trademarks, logos or insignia, or any version, abbreviation or representation of them (“Trademarks”) in any advertising, publicity, promotional materials or other public announcement without the prior written consent of the other, which consent may be withheld in the party’s sole discretion.  

Participant Winery(ies) acknowledge that the Research Team is receiving data in anticipation of preparing written scholarly work (“Scholarly Work”) for publication in academic journals and industry conferences.  The Parties agree that the Research Team is free to publish derivative data (e.g. summary statistics) on the results of its research based on the data. The Parties further agree that publishing derivative data is the fundamental goal of this research. The Research Team acknowledges that it has no intention of publishing anything that constitutes Winery(ies)’ data.

3. How is the data handled? How is it kept private & secure?

The Research Team shall exert reasonable efforts to maintain the Participating Winery(ies)’ data in confidence, except that the Research Team may disclose or permit disclosure of any of Participating Winery(ies)’ data to those employees or students who need to know such Confidential Information to fulfill the Study and who have been advised of and have agreed to maintain the confidential nature of the data. The Research Team shall be deemed to have discharged its obligations hereunder provided the Research Team has exercised the foregoing degree of care.

The data can be deleted upon Participating winery(ies) request. Data is not shared with any 3rd parties unless specifically authorized. Participant Winery(ies) will not be provided or have any access to other wineries’ data.

4. How do we access the data?

Data is downloaded via API credentials for the e-commerce provider or directly provided as a CSV / Excel from the winery and stored in a password-protected folder.

5. 3rd party tools

Aggregate statistics and predictive analytics are presented in a web-based online dashboard via Google Data Studio. Individual winery or customer data is not presented.

Google Data Studio is used to create a web-based online dashboard that reads aggregate population statistics and predictive analytics from a Google sheet file. Dashboards are private and only accessible to those who have permissions.

6. Changes to our Privacy Policy 

Any changes to our data privacy policy will be posted here. The date the privacy policy was last revised is identified at the top of the page.
